THE RETURN OF OUR ANCESTORS

WHITE BUFFALO CALF WOMAN

2,000 years ago a beautiful young woman
appeared to the Lakota Sioux. She gave the
people a sacred pipe and taught them how
to use it to pray. Before she left them,
she said she would return

She was known as
White Buffalo Calf Woman

In 1875, Tatanka Yotanka (Sitting Bull),
was participating in the annual Sun Dance
powwow at Standing Rock, Dakota Territory

All at once, he collapsed into a trance

In his vision, he found himself
400 miles to the west, in the hilly
coulee country of eastern Montana

There, Sitting Bull met
WHITE BUFFALO CALF WOMAN,
guardian spirit of the Lakota People.
She told him that in one year's time
a big battle will be fought there

The Lakotas will be victorious,
she said, but victory will bring hardship

However, White Buffalo Calf Woman
told Sitting Bull that the Lakota people
will experience a GREAT REVIVAL
IN A FEW GENERATIONS
[One year later, on the 25th June, 1876, the
Battle of the Little Big Horn took place]

In 1998, Floyd Hand, 19th holder of
White Buffalo Calf Woman's sacred medicine
pipe, had a vivid dream of a beautiful woman in a
rainbow-coloured dress who said she would bring
a message of unity and peace to mankind.
